1858 Navy
During the Civil War, the U.S. Navy purchased about 4,300 of the 28,000 Remington New Model Navy revolvers produced. Manufactured from 1863-1878 and now commonly known as the 1858 Navy, this medium-powered .36 caliber cap-and-ball sixgun was well liked by Union sailors and others who packed them. The top strap design gave the handgun more strength and aided in preventing exploded percussion caps from falling into the revolver's innards and jamming it when the gun is cocked for folllow up shots. Cimarron's reproduction of this popular 1860s revolver faithfully copies the original, complete with the octagon barrel that measures 7 1/2 inches. It is handsomely blued overall, except for the brass trigger guard, and fitted with a blued post-type blade front sight, grooved top strap rear sight, and authentic two-piece walnut grips. Like Cimarron's 1858 Army model, the parts of this Remington lookalike are interchangeable with the original.
Like other Cimarron replicas, the 1858 Navy revolver is offered in either standard blue, charcoal blue or "Original" finish, giving the sixgun the look of a vintage shooting iron. Either way, the 1858 Navy is a handsome, historic revolver that's a time-tested straight shooter!
